Expansion of social and mental care programs in seniors
An incredible amount of resources are dedicated to preserving seniors’ physical health. However, not enough is done to ensure that seniors are taken care of socially and mentally. Funding must be secured for programs that make sure seniors are not only healthy physically but are happy and satisfied socially.
Reopening plan for senior centers
As part of NY PAUSE senior centers throughout NYC were closed to stop the spread of COVID-19. However, almost a year after NY PAUSE took full effect there is still no comprehensive reopening plan for New York’s senior centers. Our senior citizens cannot be left in the lurch for these resources. It is time to build a comprehensive safe reopening plan for senior centers in NYC and maintain these services.
20-10 in 2021
Affordable and senior housing is in an ever-narrowing supply in New York City. Our community boards must work with developers to build housing that is affordable for hard-working New Yorkers and seniors. As councilwoman I will appoint community board members who follow a policy that all ULURP decisions will not consider development proposals unless they include 20% and 10% senior housing as part of Mandatory Inclusionary Zoning.
