Gun buy-back programs
Violent crimes and shootings were at a record high in New York last year. Despite an international pandemic keeping most people indoors, there is a despicable rise in gun violence in New York. In conjunction with NYC DAs and the NYPD, there must be a renewal of gun buy-back programs to get firearms off our streets and out of the hands of criminals.
Task force for subway safety
The recent spike in violent assaults in the subway system is deeply concerning. Due to an emptier subway system, felony assaults in subway stations are at an all time high. There must be funds given to a specialized partnership between MTA and NYPD to patrol our subways and ensure that New Yorkers who are trying to get from point A to point B are not harmed.
Introduction of new policing units dedicated to fighting the rise in hate-crimes
In the modern divisive political climate it should be a shock to nobody that hate crimes are on the rise in NYC. In a city that embraces diversity and tolerance, criminals who assault someone based on their racial and ethnic diversity need to face the consequences of xenophobic attacks. That is why I propose expanded funding for task forces within law enforcement that crack down on crimes such as xenophobic assault and vandalizing of graves and places of worship.
