Expand funding to the NYC Human Rights Commission to crack down on immigration status discrimination
Immigration status discrimination is a grave offense and deprives hard-working immigrant families of resources that they work to earn. I support funding towards the NYC Human Rights Commission for expanded enforcement of immigration status discrimination laws to root out all discrimination against New York’s vibrant immigrant community.
Right to immigration counsel for all New Yorkers, including undocumented immigrants
New Yorkers who face deportation deserve the right to counsel in the same way that criminal defendants do. I will seek legislation that encourages Albany to pass right to counsel for all deportation cases in New York, regardless of whether that individual is lawfully residing in the country.
Program that reduces student debt for CUNY students if they work teaching ESL programs for all ages
Immigrant families are often deprived of resources simply because they do not possess English proficiency to go through government bureaucracy. We cannot expect children of immigrant families to be de facto translators for their parents. I propose a program that will reduce student debt for all CUNY graduates who are qualified to teach ESL programs, both for younger generations and seniors.
